The Examiner took some time to, er, examine the neighborhood-level data from the 2010 census this weekend. Most of the trends could easily be predicted by anyone who has lived here for more than 12 months in the last five years (Surprise! The Mission, the Haight, various Hill-neighborhoods and the Western Addition are all getting whiter! Neighborhoods on the periphery are more Asian and Hispanic!), but this little factoid stuck out to us:
...if you count the homeless community in Golden Gate Park as its own neighborhood, it becomes the second-whitest neighborhood in the county.No surprise that the whitest neighborhood in the city is still the Marina, but Treasure Island, meanwhile, wins the award for most diverse neighborhood even though most of those folks will be displaced when it comes time to tear it all down and redevelop.
