Thousands gathered Saturday for a rally at SF's Civic Center Plaza in protest of President Trump's executive orders calling for a Mexican border wall and banning travelers and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority nations.

As KRON 4 reports, the non-violent demonstration featured speakers from different immigrant groups telling their stories. The popular chant of the day: "No ban, no wall."

Organizers reportedly kept the event to just a three-hour rally without a march, hoping to avoid any violence or vandalism like we saw in Berkeley last week, tied to the canceled Milo Yiannopoulos event.

Per the Chronicle, "The turnout was diverse with families, people of all ages and large groups from Yemen and other Middle Eastern countries mingled on the plaza, taking selfies with strangers and complimenting each other’s protest signs."

While upwards of 9,000 people had shown interest in the event on Facebook, the SFPD told Hoodline they estimated the crowd at about 1,000 to 2,000 as of 3:45 p.m. The Chronicle just said "several thousand."

A group of marchers from SF United Against Trump marched to Civic Center from the Mission earlier in the day, causing some Muni disruptions.

On Saturday there was also a protest in West Palm Beach, Florida, where thousands of marchers marched to Trump's Mar a Lago retreat, as Trump was said to be spending the weekend there.

Trump was mingling with guests at a party Friday when word arrived that a federal judge in Seattle had issued a sweeping ruling blocking the executive order on travelers from those seven Middle Eastern and North African countries. The administration then filed an emergency appeal Saturday which was denied by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
