A 10-year-old boy from San Francisco was treated for minor injuries Saturday after getting ejected from a three-story waterslide at the new East Bay water park called The Wave. As ABC 7 reports, the $43 million water park was having its opening day, and it immediately closed the slide known as the Emerald Plunge, as well as another slide next to it.
At the time of the accident, the park had only been open to the public for 90 minutes.
The boy reportedly descended the 80-degree slide and launched out of it once he came to the bottom, flying over the slide edge and skidding across the concrete. And given the popularity of water parks and the nightmares the induce in parents, this story has made headlines nationwide.
The park is owned by the City of Dublin and officials say the slides all went through extensive testing, but now this slide is being "reevalutated," as they tell the Mercury News.
Dublin Assistant City Manager Linda Smith was standing next to the slide when the incident occurred and immediately came to the boy's aid, as the Mercury News reports. “He got up immediately and as any boy would be, he was stunned. I was worried if he was mentally OK, but physically he just had some scrapes," she tells the paper.
The park remained open Saturday, as did four other slides at the park.
