A ruptured gas main near the intersection of 7th and Bryant streets, apparently caused by a construction project, prompted an emergency alert at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The alert warned people to avoid the area due to police activity, but as CBS SF reports via the SFFD tweet below, the cause was a gas leak.
As SFGate reports, in addition to the streets being closed to traffic, the I-80 off-ramp onto 7th Street near the Hall of Justice is also closed.
A shelter-in-place advisory is in effect for the surrounding neighborhood.

The gas pipe rupture comes just two weeks after a dramatic explosion in the Inner Richmond that was caused by a similar ruptured pipe. That incident was caused by workers contracting with Verizon to install fiber optic cables who hit the PG&E-owned gas main while digging, as the Chronicle reported.
