• Pope Francis, the first Latin American pope, died Monday morning at the Vatican. The pope made it through Easter Sunday, when he offered a blessing from his wheelchair, but died around 7:30 am local time today, weeks after a serious bout with pneumonia. He was 88. [New York Times]
  • The four teen girls killed in a single-vehicle crash in Marin County Friday night have been identified as Olive Koren, Josalynn Osborn, Sienna Katz, and Ada Kepley, who were all students at Archie Williams High School in San Anselmo. The two survivors were identified by the school principal as Elsa Laremont Stranczek and Marley Barclay. [Chronicle]
  • The parents of 14-year-old Barclay, Jessica Glantz and Ross Barclay, put out a call seeking the good Samaritan, a woman who reportedly helped to pull Barclay out of the crashed vehicle. [KRON4]

  • Cal Poly, in San Luis Obispo, is solving its current housing shortage by building 4,200 dorm units out of modular housing pods, which will start getting stacked in up to 12-story configurations in September. [Chronicle]
