The Bring Your Own Big Wheel Race down the crookedest street in Potrero Hill, Vermont Street, was back on Easter Sunday, and was one of multiple big events around the city.
Among San Francisco's kooky springtime traditions is the Bring Your Own Big Wheel Race on Vermont Street, which happened basically simultaneously Sunday afternoon with the Hunky Jesus and Foxy Mary contests in Dolores Park.
The drone video below by JJ Meeks/Jmisterjayphotography shows the crowds at both events on Sunday — with the extra-massive crowd in Dolores Park.
The adult big-wheel "race," which is mostly just a drunken free-for-all that results in occasional bruises and scrapes, came together with the usual semi-chaos, and the hay-bale guardrails along the curving sides of Vermont Street. And, per usual, most everyone was in costume.
Austin, Texas television station KVUE has the amused report on the race below, via the Associated Press.
Co-founder of the race Jared Hirsch spoke to the Associated Press in the more complete version of the video, and he stresses that the tricycles are prefeably made from plastic, and that the race remains just "for fun."
And local station ABC 7 also had some footage.
